CMI's 65MW Guatemala wind project advancing

Guatemala’s power regulator CNEE authorized the connection of a planned wind farm to the national grid.

The approval is for CMI-controlled Eólica San Cristóbal’s Comapa project in Jutiapa department and transmission line and La Arada substation, which will link the plant to the grid via the Moyuta-Jutiapa line.

“Based on the electrical studies presented and environmental documentation, the maximum power that is authorized to be injected at the point of connection to the national grid is 65MW,” the watchdog said in a resolution.

The connection authorization for Comapa, which will boast 13 turbines, expires on September 30, 2025.

If the company fails to bring the project online by the deadline, a new connection request must be submitted.

CNEE also approved a grid connection request from state power company Inde for power transport subsidiary ETCEE’s Melchor de Mencos substation, expansion of the Ixpanpajul substation and construction of the 90km Ixpanpajul-Melchor de Mencos line.

BNamericas previously reported that Inde awarded Tecnisol the contract to build the ETCEE dispatch works.
