SANTO DOMINGO. – The Dominican Government, represented by several ministries, by the institutions of the aeronautical sector and by the agencies specialized in the protection of the environment, signed the Declaration of Santo Domingo, a commitment to advance towards the development and use of alternative fuels in aviation civil.

Executive director Edward Veras, representing the CNE, attended the event where the declaration was signed, which has the main objective of promoting the use of clean energy in aviation. When introducing the signing of the agreement, the interim director general of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, Héctor Porcella, highlighted that the Dominican Republic is one of the 4 ICAO Member States that have Feasibility Studies for the development of sustainable fuel for international civil aviation. and has an action plan to reduce CO2 emissions from the Sector.

He indicated that the document signed by the Dominican Government seeks to implement a roadmap for the development and use of sustainable alternative fuels for civil aviation in the Dominican Republic.

He said that the celebration in the country of the ICAO Regional Meeting for North, Central America and the Caribbean and for the South American Regional Office for Environmental Protection, is a recognition of the will of the Dominican State to continue working on the control of carbon emissions in aeronautical activity and the adoption of urgent measures to reverse the global impact of climate change.

"We especially appreciate the support that this initiative has received from President Luis Abinader and from the government's ministries and specialized agencies to promote this commitment," Porcella said.

Among the government institutions committed to the Declaration of Santo Domingo, he cited the Ministry of the Presidency, represented by its head Joel Santos Echavarría; the Ministry of Energy and Mines, represented by its head Antonio Almonte; the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, and its minister Miguel Ceara Hatton; the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, and your minister Pavel Isa Contreras; the Ministry of Agriculture and its head Limber Cruz López; together with the president of the Civil Aviation Board, José Marte Piantini; the executive director of the Airport Department, Víctor Pichardo; the executive vice president of the Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism, Max Puig.

Likewise, the executive director of the National Energy Commission, Edward Antonio Veras; the general director of the Dominican Institute for Quality, Lorenzo Ramírez; the executive director of the State Sugar Council, Rafael Burgos Gómez; the president of the Dominican Oil Refinery, Leonardo Aguilera; and Héctor Porcella, as acting general director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation.
