Colombia and Brazil plan to forge new energy ties

Colombia is seeking cooperation with Brazil to help fast-track its clean energy transition and ramp up green hydrogen production plans.

Senior energy officials from both countries have held talks in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo last week, according to Colombian state-run oil company Ecopetrol.

"Ecopetrol president Ricardo Roa and energy minister Andrés Camacho visited Brazil to meet with executives of companies in that country and evaluate business opportunities in energy transition and hydrocarbons," the Bogotá-based firm said in a social media post.

Among those present from Brazil were the CEO of national oil company Petrobras, Magda Chambriard, and directors of power transmission firm ISA Cteep, whose majority stakeholder is Ecopetrol.

In addition to green hydrogen, topics discussed included offshore oil and gas production and electricity interconnection.
