Colombia halts tender for US$770mn dredging PPP
Colombia’s infrastructure agency ANI has halted prequalification for the 2.8tn-peso (US$773mn) Dique canal rehabilitation PPP, part of the 5G infrastructure program, to carry out consultations with locals.
In the meantime, the national planning department DNPand the finance and transport ministries are reviewing the project. The entities are expected to approve the financial, technical and legal structuring during the second half of this year, ANI said in a press release.
A 2016 court ruling obliges parties interested in dredging the canal to carry out consultations with local fishers and farmers who claim the works could threaten their livelihoods.
Dredging was halted for two years because of this ruling, the transport ministry said.
ANI said the data room for the PPP remains available while prequalification is suspended.
Works include new sluice and gate systems and better navigation conditions along 117km between the bay of Cartagena de Indias and Calamar municipality, as well as new flood control dikes.
