Colombia offers 2 airport consultancy contracts

Colombia launched consultancy tenders for the new Cartagena de Indias airport (CACI) and the expansion project, dubbed EDmax, for El Dorado airport in Bogotá. 

Bids for the US$1.3mn CACI contract may be submitted through October 8, and for the US$1.7mn EDmax project through October 21.

Details can be found on public procurement platform Secop under ID number VJ-VE-SA-002-2024 for CACI and VJ-VE-SA-003-2024 for EDmax.

The winners will analyze the technical, environmental, social, property, legal, financial and risk components of the feasibility-stage documents submitted by parties bidding for the works.

Both consultancy contracts are expected to be signed in November, with the Cartagena de Indias one set to expire in August and the EDmax one in September 2025.

EDmax includes expansion of existing infrastructure and new works to increase airport capacity from 40mn to 60mn passengers per year.

The project also aims to improve service in immigration areas and passenger processing areas, and at security checkpoints. The cargo terminal will be expanded by 25% to optimize the logistics of goods transported on passenger aircraft.

The works contract is expected to be awarded by the end of 2025.

Cartagena de Indias airport is planned to be built in Bayunca, Bolívar department, 24km from the historic center of Cartagena, with access through Vía al Mar and La Cordialidad. 

A private initiative, the new terminal will have capacity to handle 11mn passengers per year and have a useful life of 30 years.

The project includes a system of runways, taxiways, a platform, a passenger terminal building, a cargo terminal and support facilities for national and international operations.

The airport is expected to be built in an area that includes real estate, logistics and housing development.
