Colombia publishes new connection rules for self-generators

Colombia has published new rules for grid connection requests from end users and self-generators without surplus energy contributions.

A resolution published by the mines and energy ministry establishes that requests will now be processed in three annual cycles with strict timelines for submission and evaluation.

Ministry planning unit UPME will prioritize projects with minimal operational impacts while a first-come, first-served policy will apply in cases of capacity limitations.

The resolution said the new guidelines emphasized accountability and transparency, adding that non-compliance will result in automatic rejections or deferred evaluations.

"This resolution is necessary to [ensure]... the efficient and equitable use of the national interconnected system," the text reads.

The resolution, in Spanish, can be seen here.
