Colombia sees higher coal output in Q2
Colombia, Latin America's largest coal producer, saw a 3% year-on-year increase in output of the commodity in the second quarter to 23.1Mt, the country's national mining agency ANM said.
Production over the first six months of the year was 44.6Mt, putting the country on track to meet its full-year production guidance of 90Mt, the agency said.
Colombia produced 85.5Mt of coal last year, according to government figures.
GOLD, EMERALD, NICKEL OUTPUT GROWS
Gold output grew 1.2% to 525,592oz in the second quarter, while emerald production surged to 589,619 carats from 265,739 carats. Nickel production grew 11.5% to 21.1Mlb, ANM said.
In 2015, gold output was 1.90Moz, while emerald and nickel production was 2.17mn carats and 80.8Mlb, respectively.
Mining and energy minister Germán Arce said that the recovery in production and prices seen so far this year leaves the government optimistic about the mining sector's prospects.
