Colombia to build 3 datacenters with UAE support
Colombia and the United Arab Emirates agreed to install three datacenters in Santa Marta, involving investments of US$80mn and 30MW in energy capacity.
The units will be connected via Internexa’s fiber network
“This is a cutting-edge project for Colombia: artificial intelligence infrastructure and construction of a sovereign cloud,” President Gustavo Petro wrote on X.
As part of the BioNube project, the objective of the new datacenters is to guarantee the sovereignty and security of the State’s data.
Microsoft will oversee the evaluation of the land where the datacenters will be built, local media reported.
The government plans to formalize a strategic partnership with the private sector to develop a sustainable and efficient business model.
Last year, the ICT ministry signed an MOU with the United Arab Emirates to develop artificial intelligence and promote digital education.
This MOU also covers capacity-building activities related to AI, such as cooperation on best practices and conducting joint studies. It also includes policy consulting and technical assistance.
