Columbus expands Recovery as a Service solutions in LatAm, Caribbean
Columbus Business Solutions (CBS), the connectivity and IT solutions branch of Barbados-based Columbus International (Columbus), has announced that it has expanded its Recovery as a Service (Raas) offering in the Caribbean and Latin America, according to a company release.
RaaS, a category of cloud computing which protects applications and data from human and natural disasters or service disruptions by enabling recovery in the cloud, is projected to grow globally from US$642mn in 2013 to US$5.8bn in 2018, according to the Global Disaster Recovery-as-a-Service Market 2014-2018 report published by TechNavio in November 2013.
Geminare - the highest ranked global RaaS technology provider by Gartner (Gartner) - is the principal operating system for Columbus' Seamless Replication services.
RaaS services were originally aimed at large and specialized enterprises but the applications are being incorporated by medium sized companies where challenges such as displacement, reduction of staff and loss of equipment due to disasters can affect the productivity of any operation.
