Committee approves waterworks amendment proposal

The constitution, justice and editorial committee of Brazil's lower house has approved a constitutional amendment proposal submitted by Orlando Desconsi aimed at including waterworks among those services organized and provided by municipalities, either directly or through an authorized concession by a state company or public-private venture, the house reported. Desconsi submitted the proposal arguing the sector's precarious situation, privatization's negative effects and the necessity that a municipality have total control over the service. A special committee will be created to study the proposal.
