Committee to investigate waste tenders

Bnamericas
Chile's lower house has approved the creation of a special committee to investigate public tender processes for solid waste treatment and final disposal due to alleged irregularities, the lower house reported. The allegations surfaced from an investigative report aired on Chilean television involving irregularities in municipal tender processes for the collection, transport and final disposal of waste, in which legislators and local government officials would be involved. Allegations include the peddling of favors, spurious contracts and kickbacks to municipal officials for granting waste collection and management contracts.
