Statement from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications of Paraguay
This is an automated translation of the press release issued in Spanish
ITAIPU Binacional launched National Public Tender NA 1958-24 for the preparation of preliminary projects, executive projects and the construction of the General Hospitals of Concepción and Curuguaty.
Closely supported by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications ( MOPC ) and the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare ( MSPyBS ), this important initiative seeks to improve access to these health infrastructures and guarantee quality services for thousands of compatriots who reside in both the departments of Concepción and Canindeyú, including the surrounding towns.
Tendering process and requirements
The bidding process is divided into two lots due to the specificity of each hospital and their location: Lot 1 corresponds to the construction of the General Hospital of Concepción and Lot 2 to the General Hospital of Curuguaty. Interested bidders must attend mandatory technical visits, which will take place on January 15 and 16, 2025, respectively, for which they must register as established in the Call. In addition, an informative technical talk will be held on January 14 in Asunción. Questions may be submitted until January 22, and the opening of envelopes will take place on February 3 in Hernandarias.
Bidders must meet the requirements set out in the Terms and Conditions, which include demonstrating experience in the execution of large-scale hospital works, as well as technical and financial capacity to carry out the project. Bids will be received on February 3, 2025, in the auditorium of the Itaipú Hydroelectric Power Plant, in Hernandarias, starting at 8:30 a.m.
Characteristics of hospitals
The Concepción General Hospital will be built on a 19,709 m² plot of land, with an estimated investment of 40 million USD. It will have 159 beds, 29 consulting rooms and 6 operating rooms, in addition to essential areas such as emergency room, ICU, laboratory, dialysis, helipad and modern operating areas. Its design will be based on principles of sustainability and accessibility, with advanced technology, green areas, separate parking and automated fire prevention systems.
On the other hand, the Curuguaty General Hospital will be built on a 11,152 m² plot of land, with an investment of 20 million USD. This hospital will have 65 beds, 15 consulting rooms and 4 operating rooms, along with emergency areas, ICU and waste treatment plants. Like the Concepción hospital, its design prioritizes sustainability and accessibility, integrating advanced technology and security measures such as automated fire prevention systems.
In both cases, the resources are possible thanks to the recent agreement on the Itaipu tariff and the reallocation of these additional resources for the development of social and hospital infrastructure in the country.
Benefits
The construction of these hospitals will greatly benefit the communities of Concepción and Canindeyú, improving access to high-quality healthcare in both regions. The modern and sustainable infrastructure of both hospitals will also generate direct and indirect jobs during their construction, boosting the local economy.
Social commitment
This project is part of the Government of Paraguay's commitment to contribute to social development and improve the quality of life of communities through the construction of state-of-the-art hospital infrastructure. Through funds from Itaipú Binacional and with the professional support of the MOPC, which collaborates in the planning and execution phases, it is guaranteed that hospitals are built under the highest standards of quality, accessibility and sustainability.
