Conagua tenders major new Mexico valley drainage tunnel

Bnamericas

Mexico's water commission (Conagua) published a tender for construction of the Churubusco-Xochiaca drainage tunnel in Mexico valley.

The winning bidder will be required to build a new storm water drainage tunnel with a 5m diameter and capacity to handle up to 40m3/s of water, according to tender documents published on the government procurement portal CompraNet.

Works are expected to start on August 18 and wrap in December 2016.

A site visit will be held on June 26, followed by a pre-bid meeting on July 2.

Bids must be submitted by July 21 and the tender will be awarded on August 6.

The works are part of a series of projects being put out to tender by Conagua to improve drainage around the site of Mexico City's proposed second airport.

The area is currently used as a regulating reservoir, or "buffer zone," to protect the capital from flooding. Conagua has dismissed concerns over developing the land.
