Construction of green hydrogen plant in Arequipa will conclude in 2029

The regional governor of Arequipa, Rohel Sánchez, announced that the construction of a green hydrogen plant in Arequipa, the first in our country, will be ready by 2029. This was declared exclusively with the “Mining Dialogues” program of the Institute of Engineers. of Mines of Peru (IIMP).

“In the opinion of the technicians, the construction process has three stages and should take about five years. These are powerful and significant investments, and they will put us at the forefront, not only in Arequipa and Peru, but also in a global perspective,” he explained.

In that sense, he commented that Arequipa has proposed to lead the change in the energy matrix, so they will provide all the facilities regarding renewable energy to interested investors.

Sánchez pointed out that, for the construction of the plant, approximately US$2.5 billion will be spent through asset projects. In its first foundation stage, more than 2,000 jobs will be generated.

“We already have an investor for the construction of the green hydrogen plant and we are already closing the agreements with the Executive and soon we will be launching what the start of construction means,” he noted.

It should be noted that green hydrogen is obtained through the use of renewable energy in its production, which makes it a clean, sustainable fuel with a zero pollution index that seeks to replace fossil fuels in those sectors and uses that are most difficult to achieve. decarbonize, in addition to its potential as an energy storage system.
