Consultation begins for 8th phase of Guyana's Stabroek block

ExxonMobil Guyana filed an application with the country's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for authorization to advance development of the Stabroek offshore hydrocarbons block.

The filing is for the 240,000b/d eighth phase known as Longtail, according to information from the EPA which said an environmental impact assessment (EIA) is required.

"The potential impacts of the project on the physical, biological, and socioeconomic environment may be significant and long-term, given the type, scale and duration of the proposed activity," according to the government agency which is accepting questions and observations from the public to be answered or considered in the EIA.

The phase would develop the Longtail, Tripletail and Turbot non-associated gas fields using an FPSO to produce 1,000-1,500 million standard cubic feet of gas per day of non-associated gas and 200,000-290,000b/d of condensate.

Work envisions drilling 24-60 production and injection wells with production penciled in to start in 2030. Subsea equipment will be installed at a depth of 1,600-2,000m.

BNamericas recently reported that ExxonMobil expects to make a final investment decision for Longtail this year.

Also this year, first oil is expected from Stabroek’s fourth phase, Yellowtail, and in 2026, 2027 and 2029 from the fifth (Uaru), sixth (Whiptail) and seventh (Hammerhead) phases, respectively.

Uaru and Whiptail would boast 250,000b/d each and Hammerhead 120,000-180,000b/d.

Stabroek output currently comes from phases Liza 1 (150,000b/d), Liza 2 (250,000b/d) and Payara (220,000b/d).
