Costa Rica launches geothermal tender, extends solar project call

Costa Rica’s state power company ICE has begun procurement to advance the 55MW Borinquen I geothermal project.

The contract is for the design and acquisition of materials for the machine house area, design and supply of electromechanical generation equipment, assembly supervision and commissioning tests.

An information meeting and site visit will be held on January 16 and offers are due by April 9 and must be accompanied by a US$1.5mn bid bond.

Meanwhile, ICE extended to January 31 the deadline to submit proposals to design, build, put into service and maintain the 10.3MWac (12.3MWdc) San Antonio solar plant.

Also from the same country, public services regulator Aresep approved power tariffs for 2025.

“The net effect on the distribution rates that subscribers will pay will imply a reduction, for all electricity companies, that will benefit 100% of subscribers,” the watchdog said in a release.
