Costa Rican group ICE joins Linux Foundation 5G Super Blue Print initiative

Costa Rica's state telecom and energy operator ICE is the first Latin American operator to join the Linux Foundation's (LF) 5G Super Blue Print initiative, the LF press office confirmed to BNamericas.

LF Networking, the LF group that works on open source networking projects, announced last week that seven new member organizations have joined the community to collaborate on the 5G Super Blue Print initiative, including the Costa Rican operator and ANTTEC, ICE's main union of technicians and engineers.

The 5G Blue Print initiative is a big focus for Linux Foundation this year and the organization expects more companies to join the community.

“As the center platform for enabling open source 5G building blocks, collaboration and integration is more important than ever for LFN, amplified by our recent developer event in early June,” said Arpit Joshipura, general manager at LF for networking, Edge and IoT, in a release.

The objective of the 5G Super Blueprint initiative is to enable rapid interoperability, deployment and adoption of 5G across the ecosystem. Building a long-running 5G cloud native network demo work stream, the community will show end-to-end use cases demonstrating implementation architectures for end users.

This 5G Super Blueprint covers RAN, Edge, and Core and enables solutions for enterprises and verticals, large institutional organizations and more, LF stated.

Apart from ICE, also recently joining the initiative was Aqsacom, a cyber intelligence software solution; Radtronics, a provider of secure and powerful private wireless networks; Turnuium, a company specialized in SD-WAN, Sempre, which secures 5G for critical infrastructure; and Wavelabs, a company working on digital, cognitive & industry 4.0. The list also includes the Oman ministry of transportation, communications and information technology; and High School Technology services.
