Countries of the Andean Community reach a new milestone in energy integration

The countries of the Andean Community: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, approved the text of the Resolution that adopts the Operational, Commercial Regulations and the Designation and Functions of the Regional Coordinator. With this Resolution, progress is made in the implementation of the Regional Andean Electricity Market.
In accordance with the standard, the Operating Regulations include the conditions that will govern the exchanges of purchase and sale of electricity, while the Commercial Regulations establish the conditions and procedures for the settlement, billing and payment of international electricity transactions, the type of financial guarantees, the calculation methodology and the procedure for its implementation.
Likewise, the Regulations for the appointment, functions and responsibilities of the Regional Coordinator establish the powers of the country that assumes the function of Regional Coordinator.
The standard, which was approved by the Andean Committee of Normative Bodies and Regulatory Bodies of Electricity Services, must be adapted according to the regulations in each of the CAN countries.
In a ceremony that followed the approval of the text, the Secretary General of the Andean Community, Ambassador Gonzalo Gutiérrez, proceeded to sign the aforementioned resolution, which was immediately published in the Official Gazette of the Cartagena Agreement.
The Vice Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Bolivia, Ronald Veizaga, the Minister of Energy and Mines (e) of Ecuador, Roberto Luque, the Minister of Energy and Mines of Peru, Rómulo Mucho, the Head of the Office of Regulatory and Business Affairs of the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Colombia, Juan Carlos Bedoya, the Secretary General of the CAN, Ambassador Gonzalo Gutiérrez, the general director of Productive Transformation, Physical Integration and Services, Diego Caicedo and as Observers the Minister of Energy of Chile, Diego Pardow and a delegation from the Inter-American Development Bank.
The authorities considered that the adoption of this standard marks a historic milestone in the Andean Community, as it allows strengthening regional energy security, promoting sustainable development and integrating the energy markets of the Andean countries.
It should be noted that the aforementioned Committee was held within the framework of the event “55 years of physical and digital integration for regional development”, promoted by the General Secretariat of the CAN and the Inter-American Development Bank, a space in which they were Present are ministers, vice ministers and high authorities from the Telecommunications, Transport and Energy sectors of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, as well as international organizations and representatives of the public and private sectors of the region.
