COV promotes Green Gold in Europe

Colombian gold miner Corporacion Oro Verde, COV, had its official European launch in the Dutch capital Amsterdam this week supported by environmental non-government organization Both Ends. Jewelers makers, gold traders and environmental groups participated in the event, COV said in a statement. COV works on the development and promotion of so-called "Green Gold" which prohibits the use of cyanide and mercury in the gold extraction process and is opposed to the deforestation of mining areas, promoting replanting in cases where it has occurred. The Colombian company also seeks to avoid removing the organic layer, or topsoil, which normally is lost when mining is mechanized leaving the land unusable. In green mining the topsoil is returned to its original state to restore the ecosystem. During the presentation, strategies were analyzed to boost the Green Gold initiative in Holland and the EU and the constitution of a global network for responsible mining was formalized. The event was also an opportunity for COV to acquire new clients and consolidate commercial ties.
