Data seen as key to digitize Central America’s energy sector
Central America needs to address data availability and quality shortfalls to advance the digital transformation of the region’s energy sector.
That is according to a report from German cooperation agency GIZ’s Central America renewable energies and energy efficiency program (4E), in cooperation with the Central American Integration System (SICA).
“Current processes are partially unreliable, slow, and error prone,” highlights the digital readiness study.
The analysis points to decentralized storage and the use of varying and old formats which can lead to data loss.
To overcome challenges in the short term, the report also recommends the use of “quick wins” such as intelligent energy consumption, remote monitoring and grid management, and output forecast for renewable energies.
