(Communication Department - Press) . The Chamber of Deputies approved this Tuesday 18th, during an extraordinary session, a draft resolution that requests information from the Executive Branch, specifically, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Paraguayan-Argentine Joint Commission of the Paraná River (COMIP), on the Itatí-Itá Corá hydroelectric project.

The initiative, presented by Deputy Arnaldo Valdez (PLRA-Misiones), seeks to obtain crucial details on the progress of this binational project. Among the most relevant points of the request for information are:

The current status of the legal, socio-environmental and feasibility studies of the project.

A census of the affected populations on both banks of the river is requested, including the number of people, households and their main economic activities.

The request also includes information on potentially affected indigenous populations, their territories and how their right to free, prior and informed consent under ILO Convention 169 will be guaranteed.

Data is also required on the extent of the surface to be flooded and the possible impact on areas protected by Paraguayan environmental laws.

The resolution examines plans for job retraining and compensation for workers whose sources of income are affected by the project.

Finally, technical and economic data on the project are requested, including the necessary investment, schedule, financing and energy production projections.

The section of the project is the following: “That requests a report from the Executive Branch-Ministry of Foreign Affairs-Paraguayan-Argentine Joint Commission of the Paraná River (COMIP), on the Itatí-Itá Corá hydroelectric project”,

The request establishes a period of 15 days for the submission of the requested reports, in accordance with Article 192 of the National Constitution and Law 5453/2015.
