Developer seeks green light for US$335mn Chile solar-storage project

Bnamericas

Developer Cristaria Solar submitted for environmental review in Chile a solar PV-battery storage hybrid project worth US$335 million.

The plant, planned for northern region Atacama, is the latest in a flurry of large renewables projects filed for evaluation.

Cristaria Solar, linked to a company called Inversiones Uppsala, proposes 200MW solar PV park Cristaria Solar, which includes an associated 21km transmission line plus a lithium-ion battery storage system of 88MW/844MWh.

Construction work is penciled in to start January 2026, according to information sent to environmental review agency SEA.

Against the backdrop of grid congestion, curtailment and favorable evening injection prices, almost all large solar PV projects seeking the environmental green light today involve associated storage systems. Battery prices have been falling and average discharge duration climbing.

The biggest energy project submitted for review in Chile is a green ammonia megaproject worth US$11 billion that is known as HNH Energy.
