Digicel completes Deep Blue One submarine cable
Digicel completed Caribbean submarine cable Deep Blue One, connecting French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana and Trinidad & Tobago.
“Subsea fiber has long been the backbone of global connectivity and Deep Blue One is set to be a catalyst for the next wave of economic development in the region,” CEO Marcelo Cataldo said on social media.
“Deep Blue One presents an invaluable opportunity to connect offshore oil and gas rigs, supporting the growing energy sector and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders in the oil and gas industry,” he added.
Announced in 2021, construction started in November 2023. The cable was supplied by ASN.
The 2,000km submarine network has five branching units: Rockly Bay and Chaguaramas (Trinidad & Tobago), Georgetown (Guyana), Paramaribo (Suriname) and Cayenne (French Guiana).
