Digicel Suriname completed the transition to Deep Blue one submarine cable

Digicel Suriname has completed the transition of its data traffic to the new Deep Blue One submarine cable.

The subsea cable was activated in June, while the new cable landing station in Suriname went live on August 2. The station in Suriname is one of the five landing stations projected for the US$80mn submarine cable. The other four are in Trinidad, Tobago, Guyana and French Guyana.

Deep Blue One has 1,900km of submarine cable and 25-terabit data capacity.

“That is 200 times more data capacity than what is currently used in Suriname. Deep Blue One will last at least 30 years,” Digicel Suriname CEO, Deonarine Gopaul said in a government statement.

Digicel Suriname also announced the rollout of fiber optics to strengthen the existing nationwide network and provide better mobile 4G services.
