Digicel to launch HSPA+ in November

Caribbean mobile operator Digicel plans to launch HSPA+ service in the Virgin Islands in November, according to reports. The company invested US$6mn in the HSPA+ rollout, bringing its total investment in the Virgin Islands to US$30mn, according to local news site Virgin Islands News Online. Digicel's HSPA+ network will be "five times faster than traditional 3G technologies," the firm's Virgin Islands CEO Declan Cassidy said in a previous report. The company is marketing its new network as 4G, a move that has sometimes caused controversy with those who say it is not true 4G technology.
