Digital transformation allowed Entel to regain Chile revenue share

Bnamericas

The digital transformation journey undertaken by Entel has allowed the Chilean telco to regain 5 percentage points of revenue share and improve its net promoter score by 10 points, CEO Antonio Büchi said during an Oracle event this week in Las Vegas.

“We’ve been anticipating and pushing forward changes… and that has allowed us to remain leaders in revenue share,” Büchi added.

Last year, Entel said it was entering a new phase of business after almost four years of focusing on regaining market share in its principal market, Chile.

As of June, Entel led both in 5G and 4G, with 2.2mn and 5.3mn connections, respectively, in Chile. In 5G, the company is followed by Movistar with 1.3mn and WOM with 1.29mn, according to the latest figures from regulator Subtel.

The company is also trying to increase its fixed broadband market share with the help of neutral network OnNet.

In the fixed business, Entel has an 8.1% market share. The objective is to reach between 25% and 30% in the home internet business within a few years.

“We’ve been going through many, many changes. Not only technology but also regulatory ones,” Büchi said.

The Entel CEO said the road of transformation “is a never-ending story.”

The telco's digital strategy has three points: top management embracing change, open architecture and APIs, and partnerships with technology leaders.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Entel has started using artificial intelligence for credit scoring, improving the assessment of the network quality, and to predict churn rates.

Büchi claimed Entel has 60% lower churn rates than its competitors.

IA technology has also been used to allocate investment better. “We have a bunch of use cases in different stages, and we’re very excited about it,” he said.

CLOUD

Büchi said Entel has made an “important transition to cloud” and that almost 90% of its workloads have been migrated to cloud.

The use of cloud technology has lowered costs and increased performance, but also allowed the company to transform its business model, he said.
