Digital TV available to 71.5% of the Brazilian population
Digital TV is now available to 71.5% of the Brazilian population, according to data from the Brazilian SBTVD digital system forum.
The announcement comes as the SET Expo event, focused on TV technology and engineering, kicks off in São Paulo.
Since the process of switching off analog TV began, 690 cities have already undergone the change and started receiving only digital free-to-air TV. By the end of the year, all state capitals and major localities should be 100% digital.
The SBTVD Forum is a non-profit entity that contributes to the development of digital TV in Brazil. It also coordinates technical cooperation among its members and promotes the Brazilian digital TV system model abroad.
The forum is composed of TV broadcasters, manufacturers of reception equipment, transmission and software industries, as well as federal government representatives and research entities.
