DigitalBridge’s MTP goes live with new datacenter in Mexico City

Mexico Telecom Partners (MTP), a telecom infrastructure company controlled by US group DigitalBridge, activated its new datacenter in Santa Fe, Mexico City.

A ceremony took place last week to mark the entry into service of the site.

The facility was projected with 2.7MW of installed power, free cooling systems, and has over 1,000m2 of built area. Of this total, 600m2 are meant for white IT space usage, to be made available in two different phases.

According to MTP, the site was developed to serve enterprises in general and financial services companies in particular. It was also designed and built under Uptime Institute's tier III standards.

Investment details were not shared by the company.

Previously, it was reported that capex for the project stood at 300mn pesos (US$18mn).

At present, MTP reports 60 edge data locations in 19 Mexican cities, in addition to the new facility in Mexico City.

Mexico Telecom Partners was created in 2014, as a result of the merger of multiple companies, with the backing of DigitalBridge and Macquarie.

Largely focused on leasing cell tower sites for private telcos' usage, MTP has upped the ante on its datacenter business under a broader telecom infrastructure ecosystem strategy.

The company ended March with 2,800 active wireless sites of a total of 3,100 in the country, according to the latest operational figures provided by DigitalBridge.

"Demand for AI workloads continues to be high with leasing expected into 2024. Pricing remains firm as enterprises increasingly recognize inventory is tightening," DigitalBridge said in its latest results report.
