DirecTV to use On Net to offer broadband in Chile

DirecTV announced the launch of its broadband service in Chile in partnership with wholesale fiber optic network On Net Fibra, owned by Telefónica and KKR.
The plan involves investment in the country of US$53mn over the next three years, DirecTV said in a release.
The DFibra service will initially be available in six regions of Chile for more than 2.5mn people (approximately 800,000 homes). Expansion into new regions is anticipated before year-end.
On Net has a network deployed in 15 of the country’s 16 regions. The wholesale operator recently announced that it plans to invest US$40mn this year to expand its national network and reach 4mn homes.
DirecTV already offers fiber optic internet service in partnership with wholesale providers in Argentina, Peru and Ecuador and plans to do so in Colombia.
In Argentina, the company has an agreement with fiber optic provider Metrotel, while in Peru it has an alliance with internet service provider WIN. In Colombia, the company has an agreement with Velonet to launch the service.
In Ecuador DirecTV also works with wholesale networks but the alliances cannot be revealed for confidentiality reasons.
In Brazil it has offered broadband services since 2022 through SKY Fibra.
