Dominican Rep, Cabei discuss progress of Joca dam project
Dominican Republic authorities and officials from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei) met to discuss progress on the Joca multipurpose dam project, local daily El Nuevo Diario reported.
The water from the dam is earmarked for agricultural and urban use in the municipalities of Comendador, Hondo Valle, El Llano, Pedro Santana, Bánica and Juan Santiago in Elías Piña province, and Las Matas de Farfán in San Juan province.
The plans are to draw water from the Joca, Tocino and Yabonico rivers, and build five regulation pools, tunnels, 87km of pipelines for irrigation, water connections to supply municipal aqueducts and an 18MW hydroelectric generator.
The feasibility studies were carried out by consulting firm Hanson-Rodríguez SRL which, according to company representatives, proved that the project is viable and will guarantee water supply.
The meeting was attended by the executive director of the national institute for hydraulic resources (INDRHI), Olmedo Caba Romano, and the director of Cabei in the Dominican Republic, Hostos Rizik.
No investment amount for the project has been published yet.
