Dominican Republic expects dam, irrigation system by Nov

Dominican Republic president Danilo Medina visited the site of works for the awaited Las Dos Bocas dam and irrigation system located in the municipality of Vallejuelo, San Juan province.

The project aims to guarantee provision of irrigation for agricultural production for an area covering 2,260 hectares, using water resources from the Vallejuelo river.

Total investment in the project has been estimated at 1.7bn pesos (US$37mn).

During this visit, engineers in charge of the project indicated that works should be finished by November this year.

Works include the construction of the Dos Bocas dam, 14km of water transfer lines, six artificial lakes for irrigation, four distribution systems, seven drip irrigation systems, and 400 seed germinators.
