Dominican Republic hydrocarbons exploration plans hit snag
A tender to further define the Dominican Republic’s oil and natural gas resources has fallen through.
The energy and mines ministry cancelled the call to structure an offshore 2D seismic acquisition, processing and interpretation campaign.
Tender information shows that the top bidder, RPS Group, was unable to register as a state supplier with the public procurement and contracting department.
The contract also entails supporting the ministry in drafting the reference terms and multiclient contract, and supervising execution, among other tasks.
The ministry did not say whether a new process would be launched.
In his 2024-28 government plan, President Luis Abinader highlights the exploration of hydrocarbons in the San Pedro de Macorís basin as one of the roadmap’s “strategic projects.”
Abinader began a second term in August after winning elections in May.
