Dominican Republic offers Cabo Rojo airport design contract

The Dominican Republic is seeking offers to design Cabo Rojo international airport, including the terminal, control tower, and emergency building.

Process Dpto. Aeroportuario-CCC-LPN-2023-0004 has a reference price of 198mn pesos (US$3.4mn) and the deadline is October 20, when the technical proposals will be opened. Bid opening is planned for November 9 and contract awarding for November 16.

Tender launch was planned for June but moved to end-September.

The airport’s master plan published by PPP promotion agency DGAPP outlines the construction of two runways with capacity for 13 commercial flights per hour during peak times, and one terminal building. The airport will also handle cargo flights.

“It is forecast that the airports of Las Américas [Santo Domingo] and Punta Cana will maintain the lead in this market, and it is likely that the new airport of Pedernales handles the ‘medium tier’ sector,” according to the master plan.

The Cabo Rojo project involves the construction of a tourism complex with more than 3,000 hotel rooms, 300km from capital Santo Domingo on the southwest coast.
