This Enel Perú release was published using machine translation.
Lima, October 10, 2023. In pursuit of “carbon neutrality” by 2030, DP World signed a new alliance with Enel Perú thanks to which it will receive its first I-REC certificate for all of its energy consumption in 2023. This International Certificate will accredit the use of 100% renewable energy, coming from the Matucana hydroelectric plant. With this action, DP World continues working to support its operation with a clean energy source, reducing its carbon footprint.
It should be noted that DP World received the Green Certificate, which certifies the use of a total of 21,309 megawatts (MWh) of renewable electrical energy in the port company's operations during the year 2022. The Green Certificate, validated by SGS, confirms that the Electrical energy was supplied equivalent to the production of the Enel Group's hydraulic plants.
"DP World Callao has become the first port to use 100% renewable electrical energy for all our operations. With this energy we power mobile equipment such as dock and yard cranes, vans, and very soon electric trucks in the terminal. In addition, this practice "It is not only limited to the port, but we also implement it in other locations of our logistics business. These initiatives are aligned with our ambitious carbon neutrality plan in 2030, which also includes other strategies for operational efficiency, digitalization, among others," he explains. Nicolás Gauthier, CEO of DP World Peru.
Marco Fragale, Country Manager of Enel Peru, highlighted that the company has been promoting the energy transition and carbon neutrality throughout the Peruvian industry. “Every day we promote alliances like these to promote the energy transition in Peru, and involve different business sectors in this purpose. With DP World, and various other companies, we facilitate and manage the use of energy from 100% renewable sources, making it possible for more projects in the private and public sectors to contribute to sustainability and society in general,” he added.
It should be noted that, so far in 2023, Enel Perú has delivered 35 Green Certificates, and is managing 8; In addition, 5 I-REC'S Certificates have been issued. With this, the company remains faithful to its strategy of decarbonizing its energy matrix to transform it into an energy matrix from exclusively renewable sources in the future; and fulfilling Sustainable Development Goal 13, Climate Action, of the United Nations.
