Dredging tender for Uruguay River launched

Bnamericas

An Argentine-Uruguayan river administration committee put out to tender a dredging contract.

Caru is seeking a firm to carry out maintenance dredging on the Uruguay River – a natural border between the countries – and the access canal to Uruguay’s Concepción port.

The winning party will be required to dredge along a stretch identified as 0km to 207.8km.

A Caru statement said: “The purpose of this tender is rooted in the joint will of the Republic of Argentina and the Republic of Uruguay to strengthen means of transport along the Uruguay River, improving navigability and making use of it in an optimal and rational manner, with the goal of harmonic, sustainable and sustained development of the region.”

Caru was established in 1975 as an institution to jointly administer the waterway.
