Ecopetrol exported the first cargo of asphalt destined for Chile, a milestone that consolidates the Company as a reliable and recognized supplier in the petrochemical products and products segment, a market with great growth potential in the coming years.
The sale was a shipment of 12,000 tons of asphalt produced at the Barrancabermeja refinery, which was delivered directly by the Company to the ports of Ventanas and Mejillones.
"The stability in the quality of the asphalt produced by Ecopetrol, the positioning that has been achieved in the region, added to the possibility of making direct deliveries, has allowed Ecopetrol to venture into new markets and position the company as one of the main asphalt suppliers in the Americas”, stated the president of Ecopetrol, Ricardo Roa Barragán.
Ecopetrol has exported asphalt to Europe, Africa and the Americas, where sales to the United States, the Caribbean and Central America stand out.
In the first quarter of 2023, the company exported 51,000 tons of asphalt, which represented an increase of close to 26% compared to the same period of the previous year, when 40,000 tons were sold abroad.
At the end of this year, the Company estimates that the supply of this product, both for the domestic and international markets, will increase by at least 20% compared to 2022, when approximately 190,000 tons of asphalt were exported.
