Ecopetrol Group incorporates 104MW of renewable sources for transportation
This Ecopetrol statement was translated from Spanish by an automated system.
The transportation segment of the Ecopetrol Group, led by Cenit and including Ocensa , Oleoducto de Colombia (ODC) and Oleoducto de los Llanos (ODL), incorporated 104 megawatts into its energy matrix from renewable sources, which is equivalent to powering an average of 94,000 homes in Colombia.
With 18 projects from non-conventional sources, including solar photovoltaic, hydraulic and kinetic, the segment reduces its carbon footprint and promotes cleaner and more sustainable energy use for the future.
The decarbonisation initiatives developed by the Transport Segment include:
- Incorporation of renewable energy projects into the energy matrix.
- Energy efficiency activities, electrification of stations and renewable energy credits.
- Purchase of 1.8 million carbon credits from reforestation and deforestation protection projects, which has benefited more than 16,981 people in 4 departments: Chocó, Caquetá, Vichada and Guainía.
“The incorporation of these projects demonstrates the commitment of the transportation segment to the energy transition, by providing a renewable component that diversifies the Ecopetrol Group's portfolio,” said Alexander Cadena, President of Cenit.
For his part, Ricardo Roa, President of the Ecopetrol Group, stated that "with the 104 MW of installed capacity from renewable energies in the transportation segment, the goal of 100 that was set for 2024 is exceeded, and the generation of value and contributions from Ecopetrol to Colombia and to the energy transition is ratified."
Since 2019, the transportation segment has reduced nearly 94,000 tons of CO2, which corresponds to the protection of a forest the size of more than 1,500 soccer fields.
The Transportation Segment renewed its Carbon Neutrality certification, which was achieved by developing reduction initiatives, focused on the implementation of renewable energies for self-consumption of its stations and the development of energy efficiency programs.
