Ecuador advancing geothermal development plan
Work to advance development of Ecuador’s 50MW Chachimbiro geothermal project is scheduled to begin in the coming months.
Under a procurement process for shortlisted firms, state power corporation Celec invited AOC Ingenieria, Consulproy, Geovial Consultores Nacionales and Lombardi Andina to design the civil works for Chachimbiro’s first phase.
The infrastructure will support continued exploration from two pads that have been built and four pads that are planned.
Offers for the 185-day contract are due in July when a decision is expected.
Start-up of what would be Ecuador’s first power plant using the renewable energy is envisioned for 2028.
The energy and mine ministry’s master power plan also identifies geothermal candidates Tufiño-Chiles-Cerro Negro, Chalupasm, Chacana-Cachiyacu and Jamanco.
