Ecuador awards consultancy contract for health sector PPPs

Ikons will carry out consultancy work for Ecuador’s public-private investments department (SIPP) to structure PPPs in the healthcare sector, according to a release.

Ikons representative Sergio Hinojosa said the consultancy will build a strategic vision with clear definitions of how public-private investment projects should be implemented.

With the results of the work, which is supported by the IDB, a long-term action plan will be established to identify and prioritize PPP projects in the health sector, as well as a strategy and lines of action for private financing.

After more than four months of a trial stage in which the Quito metro operated free of charge, although during limited hours, fares will begin to be charged starting May 2, the subway company said in a statement.

However, trains will still only run for three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon, in peak times.

During May, 15 stations are due to start operating.

The date for full operations has not yet been announced.
