Ecuador extends bid deadline for Peru power link, plans thermal increase

Ecuador state power corporation Celec modified the bidding timetable for the planned interconnection with Peru.

The deadline to submit offers was extended to December 23 from November 22, procurement information shows.

Although a reason for the change was not disclosed, Celec has received over 400 inquiries from potential participants whose names have not been released.

The call was issued in September and is for the Ecuador side of the 500kV transmission link.

The tender comprises two blocks. The first is for the 500/230kV Pasaje substation and expansion of the Chorrillos substation to 500kV, with a reference value of US$80mn.

The second block is for 500kV lines Chorrillos-Pasaje (207km) and Pasaje-Frontera (78km) and the sectioning of the 230kV Minas San Francisco-San Idelfonso line. The reference value is US$184mn.

THERMAL INCREASE

Meanwhile, amid the country’s energy crisis, Celec invited consultancy Efficacitas in a direct hiring process to carry out a study to increase capacity of the Ulysseas power barge.

The project would increase the capacity of the floating plant in Guayas province to 450MW from 74MW.

The decision for the 120-day contract is expected this month.
