Ecuador launches bidding to shore up power dispatch capacity

Ecuadoran state power corporation Celec’s transmission unit Transelectric issued calls to carry out work for nearly US$20mn.

One process is for construction of civil works, electromechanical assembly, testing and commissioning to expand the San Juan de Manta and Manta 2 substations and the replacement of the ATR transformer at the Esmeraldas substation.

The US$10.2mn, 540-day project will help cover increasing demand in the provinces of Manabí and Esmeraldas, and dispatch electricity from the planned 200MW El Aromo solar park.

The second tender entails similar work and targets the Totoras and Milagro substations in the respective provinces of Tungurahua and Guayas. This contract is budgeted at US$9mn and will run 450 days.
