Ecuador: National and foreign companies will assume the concession of the block of 500 MW of non-conventional renewable energies

The Government of Eucador, through the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), awarded companies from Ecuador, France, Spain and Mexico, the concession for the development of generation projects included in the Non-Conventional Renewable Energy Block (ERNC) of 500 megawatts (MW). Concluded the Public Selection Process (PPS) that began on December 10, 2021, carried out by this State Portfolio, and proceeding with all the phases of the aforementioned PPS, the projects that are currently in the award stage as planned in the specifications are: Consorcio San Jacinto (Ecuador), NEOEN SA (France), Total Eren SA (France), Dominion Energy SA (Spain), Consorcio Santa Rosa Energy (Spain), Consorcio El Rosado Energy (Spain) and Consorcio Esco AS (Mexico).

It is estimated that globally the projects included in the 500 MW Block will generate around 4,000 direct and indirect jobs in the construction phase, will additionally incorporate around 2,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) into the country's energy supply. ) per year and around one million tons of CO2 will be reduced.

For the current administration, it is essential that the development of these projects, in compliance with the provisions of the Electricity Master Plan and that will be with private investment, have a regulatory framework and clear rules, as well as legal certainty, because only in this way In this way, there will be a favorable investment climate that ensures the increase in the generation supply, where it is feasible to strengthen the diversification of the energy matrix in Ecuador.
