Ecuador readying energy, mining procurement plan for US$78mn program
Contract bidding is set to begin in Ecuador under a US$78mn IDB-financed program for the sustainable management of underground resources and associated infrastructure.
The development bank approved the funds in 2020 for the initiative which aims to reduce the environmental impact of the energy and mining sectors.
Tenders for work, goods and services will be launched by the energy and non-renewable natural resources ministry and the geological and energy research institute.
The program consists of three components, the first of which will strengthen public policy planning, regulation, oversight, and implementation, and a second that will support the collection of geological information.
The third area will finance technical, environmental, legal, and economic studies for projects, including pre-investment analysis of a natural gas regasification plant and geothermal surface research.
