Guayaquil viaduct contract to cover construction through operation

Ecuador hopes to have a contract signed by 2023 to build the US$800mn southern Guayaquil viaduct, a project 13 years in the making.

"The tender will be held for the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance," Fabián Uzcátegui, concessions undersecretary at the transport and public works ministry, told BNamericas.

Once the contract is signed, construction is expected to begin that same year. The project includes a bridge of 2.8km to 3.4km over the Guayas river, and 40km of access and connection roads between the port of Guayaquil and the south of the city and El Oro province.

Uzcátegui added that the public tender will be called next year, with the tendering process expected to take around six months.
