Ecuador seeks consultants for refinery storage project
Ecuador’s national oil company Petroecuador launched bidding to prepare a storage project at the Esmeraldas refinery.
The contract entails carrying out the feasibility study and basic engineering to replace two of the plant’s seven asphalt tanks, each of which boasts storage capacity of 7,100b.
The new plants would replace tank AO-V09, destroyed by an explosion in 2003, and tank AO-V14 which came offline in 2018 due to a fire. The first tank entered service in the 1970s and the second in 1987.
Petroecuador highlights that “as a consequence of not having the AO-V09 and AO-V14 tanks, there are several operational limitations that lead to storage problems and adequate maintenance of the facilities.”
Offers for the 190-day contract are due by October 8, according to procurement information.
Numbers from the NOC show that Esmeraldas produced 583,965b of asphalt in January-July, down 21% year-on-year.
