Ecuador to certify presidential election results by November 30

Ecuador’s electoral council (CNE) will announce the official results of the October 15 presidential runoff and the winners of national assembly seats by November 30, José Cabrera, a member of the body, told BNamericas.

According to the electoral calendar, on December 8 the CNE will hand over the respective credentials to the members of the national assembly.

On December 11, the credentials will be delivered to the president-elect, Daniel Noboa, and his vice president, Verónica Abad.

The notification of results is scheduled for October 24 and between the 26th and 28th any objections will be received, which will be resolved between October 29 and November 1.

On November 16, the seats of the 137 members of the national assembly will be assigned.

On Sunday, Noboa faced Luisa González, candidate of the political movement of former president Rafael Correa, in the runoff.

According to the CNE, Noboa obtained around 52% of the votes and González 48%.

Cabrera estimates that Noboa could assume office between December 15 and 20.

The national assembly members must first take their seats.

On Tuesday, Noboa met with current President Guillermo Lasso at the government palace in Quito, to begin the transition process.

Noboa will govern until May 2025, completing the period of Lasso, who in May, in the face of an impeachment trial that threatened to remove him from office, dissolved the national assembly and called for early presidential and legislative elections.
