EDC to start La Raisa construction Jun 13

Venezuelan integrated power company EDC will start construction on its 200MW La Raisa thermoelectric project on June 13, the company said in a statement. The inauguration ceremony will be attended by EDC president Andrés Gluski, energy and oil minister and state oil firm PDVSA president Rafael Ramírez and electricity deputy minister Nervis Villalobos. La Raisa will be on the Tuy river near Caracas in central Venezuela and able to operate using both natural gas and diesel fuel. EDC serves 1 million clients in the Caracas metropolitan area, including the nearby Tuy river valley and the cities of Guarenas and Guatire. US power company AES (NYSE: AES) controls EDC, which has over 2,200MW installed generation capacity.
