EGE Haina begins operations of the Sajoma Solar Park with an estimated annual production of 150,000 MWh of clean energy
The following is a machine translation of a Ministry of Energy and Mines release
SAN JOSÉ DE LAS MATAS . The Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos Echavarría, led a visit to the facilities of the Sajoma Solar Park, which is already beginning operations. This is the highest photovoltaic plant in the country, located in the central mountain range, 490 meters above sea level.
The Sajoma Solar Park is a state-of-the-art project, with a peak installed capacity of 80 MW, which will have an estimated annual production of 150,000 MWh of clean energy, enough to supply the demand of some 60,000 Dominican homes each year.
In this regard, Santos Echavarría expressed his satisfaction with the conclusion of this important project, which reinforces the commitment to renewable energy in the Dominican Republic.
"We will continue to promote these types of initiatives so that the energy matrix continues to grow stronger, becoming cleaner and more efficient, thus contributing to the well-being of Dominicans," he said.
Meanwhile, the general manager of EGE Haina, José A. Rodríguez, highlighted the positive impact that the Sajoma Solar Park will have on the country's energy sustainability.
"This new plant will avoid the import of 210,000 barrels of oil per year, also reducing the emission of 90,000 tons of CO₂, which represents a contribution in the fight against climate change," he explained.
About Sajoma Solar Park
The Sajoma Solar Park has 123,100 bifacial solar panels, installed in the municipality of San José de las Matas, province of Santiago.
This park also strengthens the country's electrical infrastructure with a substation, a 14.6-kilometer 138 kV/345 kV transmission line, and the adaptation of a line field at the Naranjo substation.
With the start-up of this plant, EGE Haina reaches a total of 466.5 MW of renewable energy in its generation matrix, which represents almost 40% of its installed capacity.
With this seventh large-scale renewable project, EGE Haina consolidates its position as a regional leader in the production of non-conventional renewable energy, while continuing to contribute to the energy transition of the Dominican Republic.
