EIS submitted for US$450mn Chile highway concession
Construction works on the US$448mn second concession of the Chillán-Collipulli stretch of route 5 are expected to begin in August 2026, according to the environmental impact study submitted to Chile's evaluation agency SEA.
The contract, which was awarded to China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) in February 2023, involves the upgrade and operation of a 166km section of Chile's main north-south highway between the capital of Ñuble region and Collipulli in Araucanía region.
Works include the addition of a four-lane access road to Collipulli, widening 18km of the route, replacing 14 bridges and repairing another 48.
Construction is expected to last until late 2029.
