EIS underway for US$600mn-plus Peru upstream oil project
Consultancy ERM has begun drafting the environmental impact study (EIS) for the development of Peru upstream block 64 in the Amazon.
National oil company Petroperú holds the block and provided the update for the US$649mn Situche Central project, which includes new wells, production and storage facilities, and 44km of piping to put into production crude oil reserves of 55Mb.
Earlier this year, the environmental certification service for sustainable investments (Senace) approved the project’s reference terms to prepare the EIS.
Block 64 covers 761,500ha in the northeast region of Loreto and has been targeted by the government to help boost oil production. Petroperú plans to bring on a partner to help with the build-out.
The NOC’s upstream portfolio includes a stake in Amazon block 192 where production, as that at block 64, is idle due to socio-environmental issues.
Altamesa is the operator of block 192 where activity includes road work, environmental inspections, and power supply checks, ahead of the planned reactivation of the acreage.
Petroperú also holds northeast onshore blocks I, VI and X, the latter operated by OIG Perú, and northeast offshore block Z-69, all in production.
